and Sarah Vaughan and plays the bass with the
authority and swing of the great Ray Brown. With
these and many other strong influences, Kristin

Hamilton, John Clayton, Ernestine Andersen and

of guitarist Ron Escheté, Johnson excels
as both a supporting musician and a seasoned
soloist. He is consistently cited for his contributions
of skill, originality, and versatility, as well
as his ability to sound as if he is simultaneously
playing bass and rhythm guitar.
Vince
Bartels (drums)
Vince calls Baton Rouge, Louisiana his first
home. He was encouraged
to become a musician by his father, Hank, the
bassist with the original Dukes of Dixieland.
He played
in Drum & Bugle Corps and the Salt Creek
Jazz Band during High School. In 1976 Vince moved
to Sacramento and joined Fulton Street Jazz Band
in 1978. He recently recorded two CD's
